“INFINITE POSSIBILITIES” online exhibition and catalogue

I was a participant in the June 2022 online course, “Perfectly Imperfect : Discovering your Visual Language”, with Lorna Crane, which included experienced artists to beginners.

“Perfectly Imperfect” was presented by Fibre Arts Take Two [FATT] who are located in Australia. “Their vision is for a globally connected community of artists who value the arts, are inspired to teach, learn and share. They are achieving this through insightful and engaging online textile and mixed media art courses as well as a proactive online community”. FATT presents world-class artists and professionally produced online courses.

About the workshop

In Lorna’s words, “this course is all about finding your artistic voice, your own visual language. I’ll be guiding you through every step of the way by making your brushes, exploring your mark making and a series of projects to create objects of desire to record this time and this place. If you’re a textile artist, you’ll probably do lots of stitching and if you’re a mixed media artist, you’ll probably use a lot of different mediums. It’ll be quite different from being in a class, but there’s a special quality about having this time of isolation of just being you and doing it at your own own pace”.

As a result of the “Perfectly Imperfect” course, an online exhibition “Infinite Possibilities” was curated by Lorna Crane and the FATT team.

I am pleased to announce that my vessel “Liberty” was chosen for the cover image.

Source of Inspiration for “Liberty”

My source of inspiration for “Liberty” comes from the Arbutus tree that grows on the southeast coast of Vancouver Island.  The bark is smooth and reddish-brown, peeling into thin strips revealing a smooth cinnamon-red bark underneath. The decaying patterns and insect tracings on the fallen leaves influenced my mark making. The title “Liberty” is a reflection of the freedom this course gave me.

I created this vessel drawing upon many of the techniques I learned, along with the knowledge and confidence gained from Lorna’s teachings. I see countless possibilities for future projects.

This vessel is made of cotton broadcloth, fusible interfacing, acrylic paint, India ink, silver marker, oil pastels, cotton and silk embroidery floss.

Diameter top 12.7 cm, Diameter widest 48.26 cm, Diameter bottom 6.6 cm, Height 30.5 cm

Walking along the beach at Mill Bay, I was captivated by these large Arbutus trees, growing along the bank.
